I get a £50 allowance to work tonight and £40 if its a night shift during the week. The contractors who work for me are getting triple time. It hurts.

If I worked Sunday night from 7pm till 7am Monday I'd get about £200 after tax...ie in my arse pocket.

Lol, no f**ker would pay me to take my kit off!

I'm a steelworker mate and a Sunday night for me would be overtime which would be at double time from 7pm until midnight then time and a half from midnight till 7am Monday.

been doing them all my working life. You get used to them and there's something strangely decadent about going home in the morning when the rest of the world seems to be waking, especially on a Monday morning. Those of you who do nights regularly will know exactly what I'm on about.

I'm contracted to do 7 nights every 8 weeks, which on paper doesn't look too bad. I don't get paid extra for those nights, they're just part of the rota.

Any extra nights I do on top of those 7 are called locum shifts. You can either locum internally (ie within your own hospital where you hold a contract) but that only pays £27 an hour which after tax leaves you with very little. The other way to locum is to join a locum agency that contacts you when hospitals round the country need random shifts filled. These companies often pay well, up to £45 per hour, and that's how you can make proper money. A 12hr night shift at that rate will leave you with nearly £400 after tax and if you choose your hospital carefully (the rate is the same whether the hospital is in central London or some sleepy village) you can get paid for sleeping.

I don't do much locuming because I have a life! Some people I know locum more or less every free weekend they have and bring in a fair bit as a result.

I get paid £15.90 an hour normally. By doing nightshift I'm getting an extra £5 per hour!!!

Damn NHS.

I hope you think about US when you get your salary at the end of the month.

Used to work as the night manager for the 24 hour bar in a hotel. Apart from working nights it was f**king brilliant.

Free beer for me and my mates, free hotel rooms for my mates, free food, free porn, free pay per view TV and enough drunk ladies that even an ugly c**t like me found it easy enough to get my wick wet regularly.

Good times.

NHS doctors/consultants are worth every penny they earn, my half-sister and her husband are consultants and they've spent years training and work stupid hours like dr hazbun. She's a consultant anathetist and i think she was only finally fully qualified at 30. Though i do have some grief with whatever nob f**ked up the surgery on the top of my forearm, scar twice aslong as the other side for the insertion of a plate. Other side is nice and clean, this one waves all over the place and due to the width of the cut has s**t loads of keloid scarring on it.
