I think I need a 170 squat for a 500 total so thats really my first aim. Once i've nailed that, roll on 200 I've never really trained the squat hard for more than a couple of months at a time so I'm eager to see what a year of 5s will do.

The way I do them it is like a half front squat i suppose. I do quite a lot of back squatting just working up to my top sets, so I thought i would add in a different quad-style squat for a bit of variety to be honest; Maybe I'll film a couple of sets next week. edited because I can't spell

just smoked Ed and Neil - EAT MY GOAL Member 120, 1583 posts | sqory for the slow update but i've been busy this week-didn't get in until late. i logged on at work but I couldn't remember my password! anyway, on wednesday I went to train with a powerlifter. This is what i did squat worked up to 15 /1 pb (failed on the second) then 60kg for a few sets (some of them paused) bench worked up to 120kg pb 80/13 50/32 incline smiths machine 5 sets of 10 tricep pushdown 5 sets of 15 now obviously there was some good stuff here (pb on squat/bench). but the squat pb was just me bored of waiting for the guy to turn up who started squatting. On the plus side, it was a nice change to work with others and be coached. On the negative side, it is a couple of hours round trip, so it won't be any more than once a week. Also, the guy who coaches doesn't have his own facility so its in a keep fit place which is very crowded. and thirdly, I really wanted to train with some stronger people but all the group he was training were beginners/weaker than me. From talking to him, i know he trains/ works with some good level lifters so I 'll just have to find out when they train.

Actually not too heavy really; it certainly wasn't a balls to the wall effort. the second should really have gone up, its just the guy arrived at the moment and I just sort of stopped at the bottom. The coach gave me some advice about putting the bar a bit lower, moving my hands/arms a bit which all seemed to be good for the next time i try to go heavy. In a competition tomorrow i would certainly have a go at 160 as a third attempt.
